Welcome to Messrs Jenkinson

Located in the lush landscape of the upper Eden Valley, the Messrs Jenkinson Farms build benchmark standards in bovine genetics, cattle, sheep and arable productivity. Throughout the holdings, the policy is one of continued improvement of land, livestock and facilities, tempered by a recognition that Jenkinson's are stewards of the land; respectful custodians for its future occupants.

Activities on the farm are made up of a blend of bovine genetics, cattle, sheep, arable and shooting land. The Limousin herd comprises 150 breeding females which calve down to high quality pedigree stock bulls. The farm also holds around 3,000 ewes, these Texel/North Country Mule crosses produce in excess of 5,000 lambs per year.

The combined livestock land totals around 1,000 acres, the remaining 700 acres is given over to an arable rotation of Winter Wheat, Oilseed Rape and Winter and Spring Barley. The Jenkinson arable land contributes almost the entire feed requirements of the farm, as well as providing a marketable surplus of Barley, Wheat and Oilseed Rape.

Finally a series of premium quality game shoots are also operated. French Partridge and Pheasant are reared on-site and there is also an active program to reintroduce the increasingly scarce native Grey Partridge.

UPDATE - 7th May Pedigree Limousin Sale

The Whinfellpark Herd shone at the Pedigree Limousin sale on 7th May, with all six Wilodge Cerberus sons sold at an average of £6,200 each.

This sale represented the first time bull calves by the 50,000gns Wilodge Cerberus had been offered at auction from the 150-strong breeding female Whinfellpark herd.

Purchasing the first prize-winning Whinfellpark Fizzle (LM+44) at 9,200gns were DT Gardner & Sons, Lupus Farm, Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire. Out of Newstart Shelley, a daughter of the noted cow Sarkley Nellie, who was purchased for 4,500gns at Red Ladies in 2002, the 9,200gns price tag is our top bull price at sale to date.

The Reserve Junior Male title for the 8,500gns Whinfellpark Festive (LM+42) was also our first section title at Carlisle when snapped up by Tottingworth Farms Ltd, Little Tottingworth Farm, Broad Oak, Heathfield, East Sussex. Festive is out of a Regal bred female, Whinfellpark Vanish.

Messrs Hughes & Co who run the Medrad herd at Ystrad Fawr, Llangwm, Corwen, Clwyd then purchased a third Cerberus son, Whinfellpark Fever, for 7,200gns. Again, Regal sired Fever's Dam, Whinfellpark Catswiskers and was her first calf.

All bulls have gone to pedigree breeders and we wish them every success with their purchases.

Messrs Jenkinson will have more bulls to sell at the Carlisle sale planned for 10th June 2011 and have plenty to sell off the farm to suit all budgets. Please contact Nick Scholefield to arrange a viewing.

Semen is available for Wilodge Cerberus and Regal via Semenstore (see details on the Bovine Genetics page).
