At any one time, a total of over 350 vehicles are in operation on behalf of A.W. Jenkinson. The 270 A.W. Jenkinson-owned and 100-plus sub-contractors are primarily articulated units towing roof-loaded chip liners, self-unloading ‘walking floors’ and traditional tippers. Every one of the 1,000 or-so movements each day is planned and controlled by A.W. Jenkinson’s own highly experienced traffic team.

Transport movements cover the entire UK and parts of Europe and are extremely varied, ranging from mountain top collections of forestry residues to deliveries of wood flake bedding to farms and chipped wood to Panel Board Mills and Biomass Power Stations.

Articulated Lorries: Centred on Volvo FHs and Scania Rs, the large A.W. Jenkinson articulated fleet is primarily twinned with the walking floor and chip liner trailers used for carrying raw wood, chips, sawdust and compost, with a number also towing the traditional curtain sided trailers used to deliver packed and palletised goods to the end user.

Skeletal Trailers: A.W. Jenkinson operates a number of skeletal units used for transporting raw logs both to the group’s milling facilities and for breaking down to the raw wood flake utilised widely as winter livestock bedding. The units, which have the excellent ground clearance necessary for forestry site collections, also feature trailer mounted cranes allowing self loading.

8 Wheeled Units: The smaller 8 wheeled units offer the manoeuvrability required for accessing smaller farm sites, combined with a significant carrying capacity allowing large volumes of flake and sawdust bedding material to be transported down even the tightest Cumbrian hill road.

Small Trailer Combinations: These units have been commissioned specifically to service the needs of A.W. Jenkinson’s farm clients. They are ideal for carrying palletised bales of wood flake in relatively small volumes to single farms as the requirement for additional livestock and equestrian bedding arises through the winter.

Heavy Transport: A.W. Jenkinson has the extensive heavy transport capability necessary to run a large, fully equipped heavy processing and handling business. The Business’ low loaders are used extensively to transport vehicles between sites during redeployment or following servicing.

AWJ Plant: A.W. Jenkinson and its associated Companies own and operate a huge fleet of specialist plant. Ranging from work horse loading shovels, log handlers and forklifts to large processing and screening units, the Group’s plant is wholly owned, minimising on costs resulting from leasing charges and allowing A.W. Jenkinson to offer highly competitively priced products.
