Recovered Timber - making the most of recovered timber waste

Recovered timber waste or RCF (recovered fibre) is of increasing importance to both AW Jenkinson Forest Products and the national economy.

It has been estimated that between 5 and 10 million tonnes of wood and wood products are thrown away every year in the UK. It comes from construction and demolition timber; waste from furniture, panelboard and other wood product manufacturing; from discarded pallets and packing cases; and the municipal waste stream (household collections and Civic Amenity sites).

In the past much was incinerated or sent to landfill. Today, neither method of disposal is a suitable option. Such ‘waste’ is, in fact, a valuable raw material for making chipboard, for generating electricity, for all weather riding surfaces, for amenity horticulture (paths and mulches) and for animal bedding. But still only 20% of what is thrown away is actually recovered and recycled.

AW Jenkinson and associate companies have sites right across the UK from Hampshire to Falkirk handling upwards of 250,000 tonnes each year. They take in deliveries of waste wood and sort and process the material to produce a high quality product fit for each end market.
